Muskie on the Fly-how did Mr. Pike sneak in

I was able to spend a hot mid June summer day drifting on a local stream looking for muskie with my son Kory. I was using fly gear and my boy was using conventional spin casting gear. He was casting a plug when out of nowhere he got a rise from what  we thought was a muskie. We both continued to cast to the area we got the rise in hope of getting a hook up. I got the fish to swing at my fly but a miss. Strike 2. Being persistent and not having the fish touch either bait we keep casting to the area we saw it last. Finally the 3 cast and WAM! fish on. The cool part, I caught the take on the cam. Here are a couple pictures of the fish and a video of our trip. We were able to entice one more fish to show and this one was a muskie going 10+ but true to muskie form it only followed my fly bumping the it but never taking in. Finally at the boat he sank to the dark depths of the river. Kory tried the figure 8 method to try to get a take at the boat but this big guy just wasn't interested. All in all was a great day spent with my son on the river.

Soo North Guided Tour

so my boy just finished his co-op and had a few day before back to school, so i called my good friend Brad from the Soo asked any steelies in the Rapids and coming up for a couple days. Well as always Brad put us onto some steelies in the rapids and then did a day trip north of the Soo and checked out some new spots for Specs. My boys enjoyed the Specs more then me but could be because he caught 1 had 3 on and i  got skunked. here is a video of some of our fishing.

Soo Steelie Brute

Was up at the Soo with my boy and a good friend and owner of the Soo North fly shop, Brad Hodkinson. Brad put us on to some fish so here is a short video of a steelie that was so smart he keep trying to get my off by getting in behind some rocks. The total time it took to fight the fish was over 5 mins but i shortened the video to 3. Hopefully I will have another post of the trip with some brock trout fishing included.

Casting the Maitland Again

With the river low, all the fish upstream restricted season in force guess just another day casting on the Maitland. I did catch two sucker but got told they were not picture worthy so here some nature pictures.

As you can see in this picture low and clear.  So all we can do is wait for some rain to get the fish moving and hope to catch one on its way out.
