Nov Rains in Oct

I have  been busy with work, still trying to get some fishing in and fighting all the rain. I was lucky to get out before the rains came and drove the river levels dangerously high. Here is a small video of me float fishing before the river got to high. Now I guess it  be a good time to get caught up with tying some yarn flies.

Early Fall Season Steelie

Last night I went to bed early with the intention of sleeping in on my day off, being that the rivers are a little low for fishing. But being a creature of habit and an early riser for work, as usual I was automatically wide awake at 5 a.m. Lying there, I thought, what the hell, I am up, I might as well head out and test the new Vision fly rod my friend  Brad from Soo North fly shop sent me.

That ended up being the right decision. I had a good test on the rod landing about a 5 pound steelhead. I have to say that my initial impression of this rod, very positive. When I get a few more pictures and more run time, I'll do a complete review, but its looking good.

Not being quite as organized this morning I had to dig into my waiters to retrieve my Go Pro and managed to get some footage of the fish. Here is a small video of me landing my 1st fall fish.

Fall Morning Fun

Well its 1030 Saturday night, just got back from the local theater and I get a text message from my son . "Dad I forgot my IPhone charger at your place, bring the charger  and I will meet you half way. Bring the canoe we can do some fall fishing at a nearby lake. Oh yea could you grab my lures and rods ". Well like a good dad I pack all his fishing gear got the canoe and headed out next morning to meet him to get him his charger. Thank God he forgot it wow what a day.

Here is the 1st of four fish with this bad boy 4lbs..

Kory land this bucket mouth 4lb. 15 oz.

He finished the day off with a couple nice pike

I was so unorganized that I didn't even have the GoPro out for my fish caught with the fly rod. Here is a small video of our morning outing.

Sept Pike

My son gave me a hard time about getting out fishing with him one more time before the salmon/steelhead season start. So I kidded him back with being soft and not coming out for some extreme fishing in the fall.
Here is a small video on our day out with Kory catching a couple pike. I stuck with my fly rod and had 3 hits but just having one heck of a time hooking up with these toothy critters. He wanted to name this post as kicking dad's ass but being the owner of this blog I will stick to Sept. Pike.

Test Driving Vision Fly Rods Speckle trout Fishing

I had a weeks vacation with not a lot to do when my good buddy Brad from The Soo North Fly Shop call and said come on up and we well do some Atlantic fish off the out flow of the power station there and some speckle trout fishing above the Soo. Because Lake Superior is up 14 cm they have 6 of the gates open to the rapids making it to dangerous to fish

where you see rocks in the picture is actually a small island would be so the rapids are raging.

So off to the out flow off the power station we go and back troll for some Atlantics. The problem there instead of having all the turbines running they only got one. Well wish Brads great guiding skills we still managed a couple hook ups with me loosing a good fish and getting a 2 pounder to the net to only have the net guy miss the fish (Actually I lowered the rod when the fish was heading to the net and caused Brad to miss loosing the fish, but we wont tell him that and let him believe he lost it).

Now I love my iPhone and with this cool app Brad found showing Topo Maps

we headed out onto some back roads looking for some speckle trout using Brad's 8 weight 9 foot Vision rods. Well I couldn't rave more about these rods with the way they cast effortlessly. I Will put a small video in of me casting to show the ease and distance we were casting. Again with a cold front just moving through the fishing was tuff. Brad managed a 8 inch speck. I had one good hit but for some reason I could not get a hookup. But that's why they call it fishing and not catching. But with all the senic beauty around me of the far north I still enjoyed the trip to this wild country.

The morning drive was so cool with the morning dew burning off the hills.

What a scenic vision holding a vision rod

Brads thinking he is a mountain goat standing on top of the falls

Well here a quick video I promised of him and I casting vision rods

Kory's Algonquin Trip 2013

I need to get my son onto the blogosphere but he is not there yet and ask me to place his trip on my blog. Here are some pictures of their 3 day stay fishing for Bass and Pike  He didn't catch any  5 pound bass this trip,  but as long as he is still leading in the family derby (4lb 6oz. smallie) he may go back on labour day.

After setting up camp

Lindsey started the trip off with a giant creek chub

But then she settled down and finally hooked into a nice pike

With a tuff day fishing they decided to go back to camp for some relaxation. Reemy said to hell with the rest of them and went for a swim

day 2 was much better with a great days catch

Kory and Taylor fighting over who going to clean the fish. Yea if you believe that, think Kory lost.

Kory snuck out last day while the rest slept and caught 2 nice pike

and here are some other scenic pictures of the trip
